Newton’s Courtyard sits at the heart of our school site, yet it has long lacked the accessibility and purpose such a central space deserves. It now requires thoughtful redevelopment to become a safe and welcoming environment that enhances daily school life for every pupil. This project is essential to ensuring that King’s continues to provide a holistic educational experience that nurtures the minds, wellbeing, and character of the boys in our care. The garden will give our pupils space to think, breathe, explore and learn; something increasingly important in busy school environments.
Our aim is to create a vibrant and inspiring garden, a multi‑use space that supports wellbeing, outdoor learning, enrichment, and personal development. The proposed designs will transform this overlooked area into a meaningful asset for the whole school community.
The new garden will reflect the values that define The King’s School. It will be a place where pupils develop character, confidence, and compassion; where curiosity is encouraged; and where the principles of scholarship, integrity and service guide everyday experiences. Rooted in our historic connection to Sir Isaac Newton, it will invite boys to think deeply, explore widely, and take pride in belonging to a school shaped by such remarkable heritage.
Above all, Newton’s Courtyard will offer a calm and inspiring space where pupils can pause, reflect, and spend time with their peers - helping them develop confidence, curiosity and a strong sense of personal purpose as they grow into thoughtful young men.
The King's School holds a remarkable archive charting more than five centuries of history, achievement, and community life. From photographs and documents to records of pupils, staff, and school traditions, these materials tell the story of The King's School and the people who have shaped it.
A selection of our archive imagery and materials has already been digitised and is now available online, allowing alumni, pupils, and the wider community to reconnect with the school's past. We now wish to continue this important work by digitising our entire archive collection, ensuring it is preserved, protected, and accessible for generations to come.
Fully digitising the archive is a substantial undertaking, with an estimated total cost of £100,000. Funds raised through the King's School Archive Appeal will support:
- The professional digitisation of historical documents and images
- Secure digital storage and long‑term preservation
- Improved access to the archive for alumni, researchers, and the school community
By supporting this appeal, you are helping to safeguard the heritage of King's School, protect fragile historical materials, and make our shared history available to all, now and in the future.
Every contribution brings us closer to preserving the story of The King's School in full.
As we celebrate 500 years of heritage and tradition at the King's School and look to the decades and centuries ahead, leaving a gift in your will is your opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the School for generations to come.
Leave a gift in your will and help safeguard The King's School's future.

Types of Legacy
This allows you to give a specific sum of money to King's. As the value of a specific sum would decrease over time owing to inflation, it is possible to index-link this so that it maintains its current-day value.
This is a method of providing for your family first and then benefiting King's. It involves leaving your assets to trustees so that the beneficiaries can enjoy the income during their lifetime, with the whole or a portion reverting to King's on their deaths.
This involves leaving all or part of the net residue of your Estate to King's, after all pecuniary legacies, debts, fees and other liabilities have been met. This gift has more flexibility than a pecuniary gift in that you do not have to quantify the sum or take into account inflation when you draw up your Will.
This provides for the eventuality that if none of your named dependants survive you, your Estate will be left to other named beneficiaries and charities including King's.
You can leave a specific personal possession to a charity such as King's. Examples include property, jewellery, antiques, works of art, stocks and shares. If you do, these possessions will be excluded from the valuation of your Estate and will not be liable for Inheritance Tax.
